Volvo S90 T8 - now with a unique plug-in hybrid technology: four-wheel drive, electric only, 408 hp and 4.0 liters per 100 km.
Under the hood of the Volvo S90 T8 hybrid is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, paired with a special starter-generator.
The latter not only starts the ICE (starter) or generates electricity (generator), but can also act as an electric motor for a short time, delivering torque of up to 150 Nm: this is useful in intervals when the electric motor and / or internal combustion engine has not yet entered the maximum power range.
Power from the front power module is transmitted via an 8-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. But for the rotation of the rear wheels, an electric motor with a power of 65 kW (88 hp) is responsible, which is powered by a traction battery with a capacity of 9.2 kWh.
The battery is located in the center of the car, in fact, in the tunnel (in this case, the missing) propeller shaft. Thanks to this, the battery does not take up space: the cabin is spacious.
The Volvo S90 T8 plug-in hybrid offers several driving modes to choose from:
AWD - four-wheel drive, both motors work;
Pure - maximum electric driving, speed up to 125 km / h, almost full battery discharge;
Hybrid - a combination of the operation of an electric motor and an internal combustion engine, the start of movement and a leisurely ride is possible with the help of an electric motor only;
Power - maximum power and dynamics, the electric motor and the internal combustion engine always work, a tougher brake pedal, a heavier steering wheel;
Individual - setting all possible parameters of work at your discretion.
In addition, there are several additional modes for controlling the state of the battery charge: Charge or Hold - for forced additional charging or maintaining the current battery charge, respectively.
In addition, the automatic transmission lever is provided with the "B" (Brake) position - more intensive engine braking and an increased level of recuperation, which also allows you to recharge the battery.
