History of Mitsubishi Electrified Cars

MITSUBISHI EV & PHEV Car Manuals PDF above the page.

In 1966, Mitsubishi created an independent division whose field of activity was focused exclusively on the development of the electric vehicle.

For 4 years from 1989 to 1993, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation developed 3 models of electric vehicles. Concept electric cars were called Minicab EV, IZA, Libero EV.

Each model was equipped with nickel-cadmium batteries, which, unfortunately, were not enough for the necessary power reserve and for a capacity sufficient for daily operation.

Therefore, since 1991, the benchmark has been taken to develop and improve more capacious and efficient lithium-ion batteries.

The matter did not come to mass production, again the normalization of fuel prices, as well as the breakthrough of the engineers of the ICE department, who managed to create very economical engines of a new generation based on MIVEC technology, affected.

Among the most interesting projects of this time was the development of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO MIEV with electric motors inside the wheels.

2009. Mitsubishi presents its first serial car - the Mitsubishi iMiEV electric vehicle. The small electric car fully met the standards of its time, had a decent power reserve and large batteries.

In 2013, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV hybrid crossover entered the market - an electric car with a plug-in internal combustion engine and the ability to charge the battery from the network.

In the near future, the release of several new Mitsubishi vehicles of the eco-friendly eX series, specially created for the eco segment, was announced.
