The first attempts by Hyundai to create an environmentally friendly car came in the 2000s, when a separate brand division was created, completely dedicated to working on eco-transport.

The company was encouraged by the speedy launch of electric vehicles on the market and the successes of its closest competitors from KIA, who were closely engaged in the development of this area and even managed to present a production car for which they immediately received large government orders.

The debut of the first electric car Hyundai fell in 2010. The ceremonial presentation of the Hyundai BlueOn was held at the official residence of the President of the Republic of Korea.

Hyundai BlueOn was built on the basis of the serial model i10. Over $ 35 million was invested in the development of the car.

Unfortunately, the car did not begin to be produced further than a limited test series. From unofficial sources, data came that the company management considered the electric car to be insufficiently competitive.

The coordinated work of the brand’s team was marked by the release in 2016 of the first production Hyundai Ioniq electric car, capable of speeds of 165 km / h, and passing about 250 km on a single charge.

In parallel with the electric car, Hyundai also released its plug-in hybrid in the Ioniq series, which, in addition to the electric motor, was equipped with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine.
