Problems of environmental friendliness and control of the emission of harmful substances have always been of interest to responsible German automakers. Even the AUDI engines, which consume a minimum of fuel and meet the highest standards for controlling emissions of harmful substances, have not stopped the company's work on creating a car that runs on clean electric energy.

Having carefully studied the development of competitors and applying their own technical developments in 2005, the company makes its first breakthrough in the eco-car industry. The first hybrid car AUDI Q7 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In addition to a powerful gasoline engine, the model was equipped with an additional electric motor. The demonstration of this model showed that the company's engineers were seriously involved in the development of a new market segment - electric vehicles.

The next step on the road to mass production of the electric car is the demonstration at the Frankfurt Motor Show of the prototype AUDI in the R8 body that is fully electric. The model was equipped with a lithium-ion battery, with a mileage of 248 km, the only drawback of the car was its long charge.

Finally, in 2013, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the world presented the first production model AUDI A3 E-tron Plug-in Hybrid, which most closely corresponded to the company's idea of a modern electric car.

The hybrid includes the presence of batteries with a power reserve of 50 km and the possibility of acceleration to 220 km / h. Today it is the main representative of the company in the market of serial electric vehicles.

The release of the next novelties of this segment from AUDI is planned for the near future. Most likely, electric cars will be made in the bodies of models A3 and Q7, and the name of the entire series will also be E-tron. Further, the company plans to expand the range to all brand bodies, including the popular A4, A6 sedans and Q3 and Q5 crossovers.
